Dogs on group walks

We know that there are many people who are keen to bring their dogs on group walks. In line with Ramblers policy, dogs are welcomed at the walk leader’s discretion (and assistance dogs are always welcome).

The walk leader will normally have indicated one of the following on the walk description (if not, you can contact them to ask):

  • Dogs welcome provided they are under control at all times and placed on a lead when requested by the walk leader.
  • Dogs allowed provided they are kept on a lead at all times.
  • Assistance dogs only.

If you do plan to bring a dog on the walk, please let the walk leader know (either directly using the contact information provided, or via a comment on the Meetup page for the walk).

Please be aware that many of our walks involve stiles and similar path furniture – it is your responsibility to ensure that your dog is able to negotiate these as necessary. If in doubt, please speak to the walk leader.

In all cases, dogs must be kept under control at all times and not cause a nuisance to other members of the group, the public, livestock or wildlife. While some members of the group may appreciate your dog’s attention, others will prefer them to keep their distance – please respect this.

We reserve the right not to welcome back any dog which is not kept suitably under control.
