We’ll set out from Midgham station at 11.30am after the arrival of the 11:10am train from Reading, which arrives at Midgham at 11:27am. The first half of the walk is on the north side of the A4: there’s a couple of churches, a couple of hills and plenty of rolling countryside. Lunch will be on the banks of the Kennet and Avon canal at Aldermaston Wharf, followed swiftly by a visit to the excellent tea shop there. Our walk home takes us over the fish ladder on the Kennet and along the lane towards Aldermaston, diverting just before the village to pick up the canal tow path back to Woolhampton.
After the walk, the intent is to have an extended stay at The Rowbarge Inn, perhaps staying long enough for tea. There are plenty of trains in either direction to choose from and return home.
