The meeting point for the start of this walk will be the YHA at Lulworth Cove.

The walk will start at 10.00 am, and from the YHA we’ll follow the footpath down towards the coast, and Lulworth Cove itself.  Not only can you enjoy the fantastic views, but the cove gives you a unique snapshot of nearly 100 million years of the Earth’s history.

A short walk from the beach leads us to Stair Hole and the ‘Lulworth Crumple’ – a spectacular example of the geological forces working under our feet, and another great view across the cove.

We’ll then join the England Coast Path, that steeply climbs up and over Hambury Tout, and onto the famous cliffs and arch of Durdle Door.
Continuing on along the coastal path, keep your eyes open for a Calf, a Cow, a Blind Cow, and a Bull. (don’t worry, we won’t be stuck in a field with these particular bovine characters!).

The path leads us past Scratchy Bottom, Middle Bottom, and finally West Bottom (no sniggering at the back!), and we’ll stop at a suitable scenic stop for lunch.

After climbing up and away from the coastline, there should be great views across to Weymouth, and Isle of Portland beyond.

We’ll then take a well-made path (known as the Old Dagger Gate Road), gradually heading inland across the gentle Chaldon Downs for a couple of kilometers eastwards.

Finally, we join the Hardy Way for a short distance, which leads us back to West Lulworth, and the end of today’s walk.

*warning: the walk leader may be a geologist!
