Meet at Basingstoke station for an afternoon start at 1.15pm. If you are coming from Reading, take the 12.38am departure. The train will arrive at 1.02pm. If the train is late, the start of the walk will be too. Parking is available at the station (charges will apply).

This walk is out of our usual Berkshire area but it’s a good chance to explore our neighbouring county – Hampshire. The walk will head south from the station, walking along the side of the town centre. The walk will then head out towards the M3 where we will cross over the noisy road into the open countryside leaving the busy town behind us. We will be welcomed with views of the Hampshire countryside. The walk will follow part of the old Basingstoke to Alton railway line.

As we meander our way across the Hampshire countryside around Cliddesden we will be welcome with views looking back towards Basingstoke or down towards the South. Our route back will take us through Hackwood Park where we have the chance to see some deer.

This is an easy walk which is relatively flat. The footpaths may be a bit muddy so please wear suitable footwear. There is NO lunch stop on this walk so please eat before but you can bring snacks to eat along the way.
