Meet at 11.05am outside the Unicorn pub at Rotherfield Peppard. This is the terminus of Reading Buses route 25.
The walk leader intends to travel on the bus leaving Friar Street stop FJ at 10.35am (although will probably board at one of the Caversham stops), which should arrive in plenty of time. If the bus is delayed, the start of the walk will be as well. If getting the train from outside Reading, please join the bus either at Friar Street, Forbury Road stop EL (at 10.36am) or Station North Interchange stop NB (10.38am). All Reading Buses now offer contactless payment. Parking is available at the Unicorn, or considerately in the surrounding streets.
From the Unicorn, we skirt the edge of Rotherfield Peppard before heading north through a beech wood. There is a possibility of a pub stop at the Rising Sun at Witheridge Hill. We then pass through Bear Wood and across Kingwood Common, before heading past Wyfold Grange and the vineyards for the sparkling wine of the same name. The final stage of the walk takes us down a thin glade of trees before returning to the Unicorn through New Copse. We can then wait for the bus back to Reading at the pub – these leave once an hour.
Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink, and wear appropriate footwear.
