AGM

Behind the scenes of the Berkshire Walkers are a committee who, along with our walk leaders and other volunteers, make sure that the group keeps running smoothly. The committee is voted in each year during the AGM. This year there will be a local walk in the morning before the meeting, and a pub social afterwards, the official programme for the day will be announced next month.

All group members are encouraged to attend and there will be free Tea / Coffee / Hot Chocolate and Cake available on a first come first served basis, and any member is welcome to put themselves forward for any of the committee positions – please see the recent blog post for details and complete the nomination form here by 4pm on Sunday 15th October. Registered candidates listed below will be voted on by our members through an online form (see below).

You can find the agenda for the meeting below, if you have a motion for the AGM to be considered please email chair@berkshirewalkers.co.uk to get it on the agenda. During the AGM we will will give brief presentations on what has happened over the past year, and then we will review the votes received for each committee position.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.
For the few which still have limited numbers, this is handled via Meetup. Follow the link to a walk’s Meetup page (or press 🎟 Register / 🎟 Tickets / 🎟), and mark yourself as attending.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
