Walk details

This circular walk will head north from Martins Heron station, crossing the road and through Calfridus Way Playing Field to reach the beautiful woodland of Lilly Hill Park. Having missed it on the recce, we are keen to get a glimpse of the park’s giant picnic bench, which Jen H made us all jealous of missing on one of her evening walks last year!

After crossing another road, we’ll head to the peaceful fields of Longhill Park, which you wouldn’t know is a restored landfill site, were it not for all the chimneys dotted around! We’ll then cross the road again (there might be a pattern here) and follow the footpath through the roadside woodland to reach (a road crossing and) northern Bracknell Forest. This part of the forest is much quieter than the southern parts, and contains the unexpected hidden gem of a magical* tree tunnel…

We’ll then head over the orange road on the OS map to walk around the pretty Englemere Pond, and back over the road for a quick second glimpse of Bracknell Forest. Finally, we will return to Martins Heron station in good time to get home for lunch, or to get over to Twyford for most likely, a lot of beer… 🍻

Please be careful with all the road crossings joining the green bits of Bracknell. Hopefully in the future the council will connect them more sensibly, with bridges or zebra crossings…

*Not like, actually magical 🪄.
