AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Berkshire Walkers will be at 16:30 in Room 3 of RISC, London Street, Reading, RG1 4PS on Saturday 11th November 2017.

The meeting is open to all members and is the annual opportunity for you to influence how the Berkshire Walkers is run and get involved. The agenda will be:

1) Attendance and Apologies
2) Annual Reports from the Committee
3) Group Income and Expenditure Review
4) Election of Committee for 2017/2018
5) Consideration of motions
6) Motions to amend the constitution

Motions to be put to the meeting should be sent to secretary@berkshirewalkers.co.uk by Saturday 4th November.

The whole committee is elected at the AGM, with all posts up for grabs. If you are interested in joining the committee, the best thing to do is speak with the current incumbent to find out what they do; we have a committee meeting at 19:30 on Monday 16th October at The Three Guineas in Reading (RG1 1LY), should you want to join us to see what goes on. The posts are:

Walks Co-ordinator – Persuades people to volunteer to lead walks and compiles a walks programme three times a year.
Social Events Secretary – Persuades people to volunteer to organise social events and puts together a programme three times a year.
Membership Secretary – Sends weekly emails. Replies to enquiries from people thinking of joining.
Treasurer – Looks after the Berkshire Walkers funds.
Secretary – Takes minutes at committee meetings.
Website Co-ordinator – Looks after the website.
Publicity Officer – Tries to get us noticed!
Chairman – Presides over the committee meetings.
There are also ‘Ordinary Members’ of the committee which help out with anything else. This year, there may be more ordinary members elected to help out with the organisation of the National Young Ramblers event in 2018.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.
For the few which still have limited numbers, this is handled via Meetup. Follow the link to a walk’s Meetup page (or press 🎟 Register / 🎟 Tickets / 🎟), and mark yourself as attending.
Social and other events may have their own booking system – please see the event description.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
