A circular walk on the southwestern fringe of Reading taking in parks, the Holybrook and the canal.
Walk details
Heading east through Linear Park we will pass Calcot Mill. After the mill (private property) we will continue along the Holy Brook through a series of parks and green spaces before crossing a meadow to Southcote Lock. At the lock, we will head west along the Kennet and Avon canal, past Burghfield Lock before returning to Linear Park and the Beansheaf Community Centre.
Travel details
The No 26 from Reading Station passes along Charrington Road. Get off at Torcross Grove, walk down Torcross Grove to the swing gate leading onto the playing fields and head across to the Beansheaf centre (3 minutes from bus to centre).
Car drivers can park at the Beansheaf Community Centre car park.
Notes
- If you or someone else from your household has COVID-19 symptoms, please do not attend.
- Please be considerate to other path users and step aside to let people past – and don’t forget to say ‘hi’ or ‘thanks’!
- Please bring a drink and a snack.
- Please note: there is NO lunch stop on this walk.
- It might be muddy – please wear suitable footwear.
- If it’s a rainy day, please bring waterproofs.
