Due to COVID-19, we all need to take extra steps to stay safe. Please follow all safety advice given by the walk leader, including the latest guidelines on physical distancing while out walking.

Please follow the latest government guidelines on the use of public transport and car sharing. It is recommended that you bring hand sanitizer or gloves in case you need to touch gates/stiles/etc. It is also recommended that you bring a face covering, in case of emergencies. If you or someone else from your household has COVID-19 symptoms, please do not attend.

Meet at Thatcham station for a 11.00am start. If you are coming from Reading, take the 10.35am which will arrive at Thatcham station for 10.53am. If the train is late, the start of the walk will be too. Limited parking is available at the station (charges may apply).

The walk heads away from the station along the historic Kennet and Avon Canal built over 200 years ago back in 1810 for a short time, past Monkey Marsh Lock before heading south towards Greenham Common. Greenham Common being renowned for the Greenham Common Peace Camps and its now long gone runway used during the Cold War.

Passing across the long since used airfield (now restored back to common land) and starting our walk along the River Enborne. Following the river path for a stretch we will then meander our way back towards Thatcham station.

The footpaths may be a bit muddy so please wear suitable footwear. Please bring some lunch with you as we will find a beautiful spot along the walk to stop to eat.
