Please note that the updated start time of this walk is now 11.15, due to rail strikes affecting the earlier trains.

This 10.5-mile circular walk will explore the area around the village of Cholsey, and will include a couple of points of interest for fans of Agatha Christie.

Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can, so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.

Pace: medium.

Walk details

From the station, we will head out east towards the river and join up with the Thames Path. We will follow this up-river towards Wallingford, before turning off into Winterbrook. From Winterbrook we will follow a track adjacent to the Cholsey-Wallingford railway until we reach St Mary’s Church, then continue onwards towards the villages of Aston Upthorpe and Aston Tirrold. Then we will head back towards Cholsey.

This walk has a few extra points of interest for any murder mystery enthusiasts among you. St Mary’s Church cemetery is the final resting place of novelist Agatha Christie, and you may also spot her house in Winterbook. The terrain in this area is relatively flat, so the walk shouldn’t represent a Hercule-an task. You could say this this is a walk you wouldn’t want to Miss (Marple)!
