Starting at 10am from Cookham station, shortly after the arrival of the 9:03am departure from Reading which involves a change of train at Maidenhead (arr 9:17am, dep 9:38am).  We will follow a 7 mile route containing many typical features of walks around Berkshire: some hills, fields, woodlands and lanes. The aim of the walk is to learn about and practice map reading. As we will be taking time to study maps as we walk, the pace will be slower than usual.

Walkers of all map-reading abilities are encouraged to come along, either to learn the basics, practice, or pass on their skills. If possible, please bring an Ordinance Survey map, sheet Explorer 172 – this is a 1:25000 scale map; if you have one, please also bring the Ordinance Survey Landranger 175 (a 1:50000 scale map). A compass may be helpful and any GPS/navigation apps that you have.

As usual, please bring a packed lunch, adequate drink and a little money for a discussion and refreshment stop on the walk.
