This walk will start shortly after the arrival of the 10:48am train from Reading (10:56am Wokingham), which arrives at Crowthrone at 11:02am.  It’s roughly 9.5 miles, but could be much longer if you sit in the wrong end of what might be a ten carriage train.

No amount of squinting could make this course look like an animal, so instead we’re describing a lollipop, first taking in a loop through Simon’s Wood, Finchampstead Ridge, and the Blackwater Valley Way, before finding ourselves back where we started. Here, the dizzy, tired or bored will find regular trains to such exotic places as Frimley and Farnborough North.

Talking of north, that’s where we’re heading next, wending our way back to Wokingham through parkland, woods and sheltered footpaths, where we can warm up in one of the local pubs.

It’s still winter, so please dress appropriately for the conditions, not forgetting food and drink. If it’s cold, why not bring a flask?

NOTE:  This is a linear walk which ends in Wokingham. If coming from anywhere north of Wokingham, buy a return to Crowthorne.
