We will set out from the car park at (SU379616), on the eastern side of Walbury Hill at 20:00 (yes, that’s 8pm). Our short 6.5 miles walk will take us through the Berkshire countryside on field-side paths and lanes, with the occasional wood thrown in for good measure.  There will be two steep sections: the initial downhill and final ascent to the Wayfarer’s Walk.  We will call in at The Swan in Lower Green for a little libation, and if the weather is sufficiently clement for star-gazing, stop for a late supper on the side of Inkpen Hill.  We shall aim to return to the car park for midnight.

There is no public transport to the start of the walk and the car park is quite small, so please car share where you can. If using sat-nav to get there, drop a pin on the map, or use lat-long placement, as the post code is wildly inaccurate and I’d rather not spend the first half hour searching for lost drivers, scattered across West Berkshire.

The new moon is Thursday 15th Feb, so there will be very little moon-light and the walk will be entirely in the dark (save for the pub stop).  Please bring a torch (preferably a head torch) and if you have one, a red rear cycle light: we will use these for safety on the short sections of road, however will aim to mainly be walking without lights.  If you have any suitable reflective clothing, please wear it.

Finally, please bring along your usual gear for winter walking: sufficient (preferably hot) drinks and snacks, and warm clothing.
