This 11 mile circular walk from Amberley takes in a beautiful village, the chance of seeing deer in Parham Park, and a section of the South Downs Way.

This walk is part of the Around Arundel trip. If you are not already signed up for the trip, but wish to attend this walk, booking is required via the form here.

Pace: medium. Ascent: 320m.

Walk details

The walk begins with a short stretch following the River Arun once again, before turning away from it and passing through the picture-postcard village of Amberley, with its castle, church and thatched cottages. We head eastwards, following the West Sussex Literary Trail, through Parham Park, where we may see some deer, and onwards to clip the edge of the market town of Storrington.

Throughout the walk so far, the South Downs will have been visible a mile or so off to our right hand side. From Storrington, we take a sharp turn south and climb straight up them, to reach the South Downs Way at Kithurst Hill. From there we return to Amberley enjoying spectacular views both north across the Weald and south to the sea from the summits of Springhead Hill, Rackham Hill, and Amberley Mount, followed by a descent back to Amberley station and a well-earned drink at the Bridge Inn.
