A favourite circular evening walk starting from the little station in Lower Shiplake on the Henley branch line. We’ll head out of the village at a leisurely pace towards Shiplake Lock where we’ll join the Thames Path, passing the Camping Island and continuing along the river to the Shiplake College Boathouse. This is followed by a fairly steep but short climb up to Shiplake Church – where, for any history or poetry buffs out there, Alfred Lord Tennyson was married in 1850. (Poetry recitals optional….) From here, we head for Hailey Woods before completing our loop back towards Shiplake.

The walk will start at 5pm from Shiplake Station car park to link with the train arriving from Twyford at 16:52 (Departs Reading at 16:22, change @ Twyford for 16:45 Henley train – Shiplake is the second stop). Return trains to Twyford run hourly at 4 minutes past the hour.

Please bring something to drink – and a snack if you get peckish.

Be aware that the steep section may be slippery after any rain, so please wear suitable footwear for such terrain, e.g. walking boots.

Due to current restrictions and pub closing times, there will not be a pub stop on this walk.

Book a place on this walk by completing the Google Form. We will only use the contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk, or to share if requested with NHS Test and Trace.
