The final walk of 2022 will be a 7-mile circular walk from Bramley, which follows the route of the Silchester Trail, including parts of the Iron Age settlement (and later Roman town) Calleva Atrebatum.

Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can, so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.

Pace: gentle. Ascent: 77m.

Walk details

The walk heads northeast out of Bramley, before crossing the railway at Clapper’s Farm and proceeding through the “Park Pale” towards Calleva Atrebatum. Passing the 12th century Church of St Mary the Virgin, we’ll stop for lunch outside the amphitheatre, before touring the northern edge of the site, including sections of the Roman town wall which are still standing.

The route then heads south from the western edge of the town wall, via the hamlet of Three Ashes and the Bramley Frith woodland, and back to Bramley, where there may be the option to stop for a drink at the Bramley Inn (space permitting).
