A joint walk with Chiltern Young Walkers, exploring the forests and hills of South Oxfordshire
This is a joint walk with Chiltern Young Walkers. Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can, so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.
Walk details
We will be setting off from the Maharajah’s well in Stoke Row, heading west into the first of many forests, after a few miles of gentle descent we will encounter our first steep climb with a panorama of the surrounding countryside as a reward, continuing over the ridge line for a while with hints of Didcot and Oxford on the distant horizon. After our lunch stop we’ll be heading along Grim’s Ditch (which is a lot nicer than it sounds) making our way towards the end of the walk where we’ll be passing through English Farm, which will hopefully offer us the chance to see the Longhorn cattle, and finally to finish things off we will have a steep ascent to make sure we’ve worked up a thirst for a drink at The Cherry Tree Inn, which is on the summit of the hill as we return to Stoke Row.
