The walk will begin at 11am upon arrival of the 10:45am service from Reading. The walk leader intends to be on this train; if the train is delayed, the start of the walk will also be delayed.

The start of the walk will follow the Thames path up until Hartslock Wood, before a short climb up where we will pause briefly to enjoy lovely views of the Thames and Gatehampton Viaduct, with the Berkshire Downs beyond.

We will head into a small section of Great Chalk Wood, through Cold Harbour and onto Cray’s Pond. Another woodland section will follow as we will pass through Park Wood, with a brief stop to look around Elvendon Priory, a former religious site most likely established in the 11th century.

There will be a bit of roadside walking before we head into Great Chalk Wood for the second time today covering a bigger section than earlier before descending back into Goring.

We will have a pub stop at the end of the walk at the Catherine Wheel in Goring. Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.
