Festival of Winter Walks moderate public transport Surrey Walk

Meet outside the main entrance of Guildford station in time for an 10:40am start.The walk leader will be on the 9:48am train from Reading (9:57am Wokingham), which arrives in Guildford at 10:30am. If the train is delayed, the start of the walk will be too. Parking also available at station, where charges apply.

This varied walk starts out along the Wey Navigation before joining the North Down’s way. We walk past the edge of the Chantries, then after a couple of steady inclines, we will reach the top of St Martha’s Hill, where we will be rewarded with fine views on a clear day. After lunch, we leave the North Downs Way, and head back to Guildford via heathland and the Wey Navigation.

Pub stop at end of walk.For anyone not wanting to stay for the pub stop, the train station is a 5 minute walk away.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
