The walk starts in the pretty village of Hambledon where we head out past the historic church and across open fields. Then we pass through the historic village of Skirmett along Watery Lane into Turville – the setting for The Vicar of Dibley. You may be able to catch a glimpse of the windmill from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on the hill as well.

We will then pick up the Chiltern Way and head uphill towards Southend where we will stop for lunch. Onwards we go through Balham’s Woods on Shakespeare’s Way towards Stonor Park where if you are lucky you may be able to spot some deer (there were some on the recce walk!). We will then climb a short hill before looping back round through Almshill Wood, Great Wood and Ridge Wood back into Hambledon. It is a very scenic route and a firm favourite of mine!

Meet outside The Stag & Huntsman pub in Hambledon at 10:15. Parking is available in the car park behind the pub or at the Mill End car park which is approx 1 km away (parking charges apply). There is also Bus 800 which leaves Reading Friar Street at 09:00 arriving at Mill End at 09:40, then it’s a short walk into Hambledon.

Please bring a packed lunch, snacks and a drink of water. There are no pub stops on the walk but there may be an opportunity at the end of the walk to have a drink in The Stag & Huntsman.

Please wear sensible walking boots or shoes and bring waterproof jackets in case the weather changes.
