This walk will take us through the Vale of the White Horse villages of Harwell and Chilton, as well as a couple of miles along the Ridgeway.

Walk details

Starting at the Rec(reation ground) in Harwell Village, we will go past the Harwell site and then ascend up to the Ridgeway. We will follow the Ridgeway for a couple of miles, past the ever-popular Bury Down car park, before descending down towards Chilton village. There may be an opportunity for some refreshments at the Rose and Crown pub! From there it’s a short way back into Harwell, where you’re welcome join us for another pub stop at the Hart of Harwell.

By public transport

The 10:03 train from Reading arrives at Didcot Parkway at 10:15. Then get the X32 bus towards Wantage from Didcot Parkway at 10.20, arriving in Harwell High Street at 10.33. From there it is less than 5 minutes walk to the start point.

By car

There is parking available at the car park start point.
