This 6-mile circular walk from Henley follows the Thames before returning inland.

Walk details

Most of this walk is on the Berkshire side of the Thames, so we’ll start by crossing Henley bridge. After passing Leander rowing club – look out for pink hippos – and the site of the Henley Royal Regatta boat tents, we’ll enjoy an easy stroll along the river, following the regatta course in reverse to Temple Island with its folly built in 1771 as a fishing lodge for Fawley Court on the opposite bank. Then we’ll head round the bend, past Hambleden lock, and inland to Aston hamlet where there should be the opportunity for a drink and toilet stop at the pub. The second half of this walk will be shorter but more challenging, over the hill, through fields and woodland back to Henley, with nice views towards the Chilterns if the weather is fine.
