This is a linear walk starting at 11:15 from Hungerford railway station (south side). This is shortly after the arrival of the 10:38 from Reading which arrives in Hungerford at 11:11. If the train is delayed, the start of the walk will be too. Parking is also available at the station, where charges apply. The walk finishes in Kintbury – so if you buy a return to Hungerford you’ll be sorted.
Today’s walk will feature not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but a whopping 5 pub stops – possibility of a 6th whilst waiting for a train home too. Pace of drinking will be swift-ish, as we have quite a few miles to do – pace of walking will be around 3mph.
Lots of West Berkshire countryside to admire along the way, including a nice stretch along the River Lambourn before heading through Welford Park (home of the Bake Off!) Mainly following footpaths, with minimal road walking. Probably best to wear trousers as the nettles are a bit out of control at the moment!
We finish the walk in Kintbury where trains back to Reading are every hour (ish!) – the walk leader will be happy to advise you of exact times on the day. Option for dinner in the final pub if anyone fancies it.
Please bring a pack lunch and any snacks you’ll want to eat along the way – as well as plenty of water. Don’t forget your suncream if it’s sunny (please let it be sunny!!) Oh, and a bit of money for the pubs if you fancy a beverage………or 6.
