Ice Skating: Reading Winter on Ice

We’ll aim for the 5:00-5:45pm session, and it’s recommended to arrive 15 minutes beforehand to give you plenty of time to get your skates etc. and make the most of the session. Although you can buy tickets on the day, it could be a busy day so booking in advance is advisable ( with a 99p booking fee, or you can probably do so on site).

Those coming straight from the walk should be in good time in which case some of us will probably have a drink in the bar beforehand from around 4ish – call or text the organiser if you can’t find us. According to the website, there are cloakroom facilities (£2 per item) which may be useful if you’ve still got your rucksack with you!

For those who’d like food or drinks afterwards, there are several food stalls and a bar there, or we can move to a nearby pub.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
