Devon moderate South West Coast Path Views Walk weekend away

The walk will begin shortly after the arrival of the 10.36 eastbound bus departure from Mortehoe Post Office due to arrive at Ilfracombe at 10.58. We will wait for its arrival. The walk leader will likely be on an earlier bus so don’t worry if they are not on it. Anyone wanting a return bus to Ilfracombe the last one is around 6pm.

We will follow the coast path running through a series of dramatic cliffs, beautiful bays and lovely beaches. We will start at outside the unusual looking Arts Centre in Ilfracombe and we ascend up to Capstone Point and Capstone Hills. A little challenging to begin but the views will be your reward. We head towards Freshwater Bay and the small village of Lee.

We move on Bull Point Lighthouse and then Rockham Bay and Morte Point. This peninsula has some splendid rock formations although please don’t ask any questions, the are others better qualified to offer their geological insights! Whilst taking all this in we can marvel out to sea to view Lundy Island before we arrive at the Golden sands at Woolacombe where the evening social may begin.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
