This May Day bank holiday we are heading to the Lake District, England’s largest national park. Not only is the Lake District home to England’s highest mountain and deepest lake, it’s stunning scenery has provided creative inspiration to many famous poets and artists. It also offers some of the most breath-taking walking that the UK has to offer, with something for everyone, from rugged ridge walks to gentle lakeside strolls.

We will be based in Grasmere (home of the famous gingerbread) at an independent hostel, located a 20 minute walk from the  village centre and just 400m from a traditional Lakeland pub. We have exclusive use of the hostel which sleeps 24 people in small dorms of 3, 4, 5 or 6. Each dorm has it’s own bathroom. The hostel has great facilities including secure bike storage, drying room, BBQ area and even a sauna!

As on previous trips we will decide on the walks the night before each day (depending on the weather ). Walks however may include Helvelyn (England’s 3rd highest peak at 950m) the Fairfield Horseshoe or Langdale Pikes.

Don’t fancy walking every day? Or want something a bit less challenging? If so, the bustling towns of Ambleside and Keswick are easily accessible by bus or you can take a stroll around Grasmere Lake and Rydal water. For the literary enthusiast the homes of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter are also nearby.

The total accommodation cost per person will be £130 for the 5 nights. Places will be given on a first come first served basis .Priority will be given to those staying for the entire trip. The organiser can offer advice on alternative accommodation if space becomes unavailable but you still want to come along.  As with previous trips away we will cook in pairs/small groups in the evenings to help reduce the overall cost. More details will follow nearer to the time to those who sign up.

A good pair of walking boots and a full set of waterproofs ( jacket and trousers) are essential for this trip. More advice on what to bring can be found here.

Car shares and lifts will also be organised nearer to the time.

Please email the organiser to confirm your place – full payment needs to be made by February 28th. Details of how to pay will be provided by the organiser once you have reserved your place.
