Day 1 of Lambourn Downs – Striding Out with Horses and Dragons

Meet at the Court Hill Ridgeway Centre at 10:00am (postcode OX12 9NE).  Here we will make car sharing arrangements and drive down to the start point of the walk in Lambourn, in the car park just off the High Street behind the library (postcode RG17 8XN) for a 10:30am start.  We will follow the Lambourn Valley Way towards Eastbury before turning off along the now disused Lambourn Valley Railway line and on to East Garston.  We will then briefly follow the River Lambourn, passing through Maidencourt Farm, along Furze Border and onto South Fawley.  There will be the chance to get a view of the famous White Horse around this point.

We will follow a metalled track to reach the Ridgeway and visit what remains of Segsbury Castle, an old Iron Age hillfort, before arriving the overnight accommodation.

Please bring a packed lunch for this first day as well as plenty to drink.  Planned pub stop at the Queens Arms in East Garston.

NOTE: This is a linear walk
