Day 2 of Lambourn Downs – Striding Out with Horses and Dragons
Starting from the Court Hill Ridgeway Centre at 10am (postcode OX12 9NE), we will head west along the Ridgeway past some impressive sites, including the highest point in Oxfordshire, Whitehorse Hill. Here we will get to see the remains of our second Iron Age fort of the trip, Uffington Castle as well as some views over the Vale of the White Horse. Carrying on, we will get the chance to see some further ancient sites including Wayland’s Smithy and Alfred’s Castle (a theme of Iron Age forts definitely becoming apparent at this point!).
We will then pass Ashdown House and follow a track towards Upper Lambourn and then along the Fulke Walwyn Way back to Lambourn and the cars.
For those staying at the centre overnight, packed lunches can be provided by the centre, otherwise please bring your own as usual as well as plenty to drink. We will have a well-deserved pub/tea and cake stop in Lambourn at the end.
NOTE: This is a linear walk
