Meet outside the main entrance of Maidenhead Station in time for a 10.35am start. The walk leader will be on the 10.20am departure from Reading, which arrives at 10.34am, so if the train is delayed, the start of the walk will be too. Recommended parking is at the Stafferton Way multi-storey opposite the station which is free on a Sunday.

The walk will go through North Town Moor, part of National Trust Maidenhead Commons, before continuing along the Green Way, a waterside corridor, towards Cookham. There will be great views of Cliveden as we cross Widbrook Common.

On reaching Cookham, we will stop for lunch and to have a drink in The Crown pub. We will then return from Cookham along the Thames, described in Three Men in a Boat as “unbroken loveliness this is, perhaps, the sweetest stretch of all the river” and it is still beautiful now.

We’ll then visit Ray Mill Island, and hopefully get a fabulous ice cream for those that want one, before heading back to the station.

Please bring packed lunch and plenty of water.
