Are you a keen hill walker? Do you fancy climbing your first Munro? If so, this is the trip for you! Come and join me for a week based in Newtonmore with the opportunity to walk up some lovely Scottish mountains. Newtonmore is ideally placed between several mountain ranges (within a 30 minute drive of both) – the Cairngorms to the north-east and those by Loch Laggan to the south-west. There are also some of the Mondadh Liath that can be climbed pretty much directly from youth hostel. For those of you who also like to sample some of the local whisky when visiting Scotland, Newtonmore is located not far from the Speyside distillery (amongst others) which is known to be the prettiest Scottish distillery!

I have reserved a family run hostel in Newtonmore, which sleeps 10 comfortably, the attraction of which is that we can have the place to ourselves! The deadline for signing up for this trip is Friday 17th April 2020. At the point of signing up you will need to pay a £20 deposit.  The expected cost for the accommodation is £120-150, depending on how many spaces we fill at the hostel.

If you don’t want to drive, Newtonmore is easy to access by public transport – it has a train station and the sleeper train stops here. As is common on BW holidays we will aim to eat together most nights in the youth hostel to keep the costs down, and I will organise this closer to the time. Please be aware that the trip organiser will lead mountain walks most days (weather permitting) which would be considered strenuous (more due to the terrain than length) in comparison to many of the walks that we do locally. There are possibilities for low-level walking in the area but this will require a volunteer to lead these walks – if you are interested in doing this then please let me know.

UPDATE: There are four spaces still available in the youth hostel.  However, we have reached the limit of people arranging their own accommodation and staying locally, unless anyone else would like to volunteer to lead walks.

If you have any questions or want to know more about the trip, please don’t hesitate to contact to me.
