Hey! Hands up who is up for a great evening socialising in the capital of Rural West Berkshire? Go on, you know you want to.

Tonight we will enjoy our Saturday night in one of Berkshire’s finest Micro pubs; enjoy some nourishment in one of the town’s many popular hostelries and if that is not enough we will move on and enjoy some live music at a venue I really like. If you can only join for part of the evening then then it’d still be great to see you.

The itinerary as follows –

5pm – Cow and Cask. Situated literally a stone’s throw from the railway station, this Micropub is an absolute gem serving ales, pilsner, cider and soft drinks. The venue is intimate. In the unlikely event there is no room for us we will consider checking out an a nearby alternative pub. Check out website here!

5.45-6pm – Dinner. We will move on to grab a bite to eat somewhere. We will decide on the day but likely choice of destination will be Catherine Wheel for Pie. Check out website here! I’m hoping we will arrive before it gets too busy, however if there are large numbers in our group then the Wetherspoons could offer us an alternative option.

7.15-7.30 – Live Music at Ace Space. Then we will have the highlight of the evening as we stroll to the venue for an evening of folk/roots music. Please check out their website for full details. Track Dogs are the band we will be seeing perform whose music can be described as “Sun-shiny songs thriving on dark themes behind irresistible rhythms.”

Please book your own tickets HERE (cost £14 max) as this makes things easier. It is unreserved seating so provided we turn up together we should be able to sit together. The venue is licensed which I’m sure you will be glad to hear.

In my experience the gigs here generally finish at approx. 10.30 so you may need to leave 5-10 minutes early to catch the 10.42 departure back to Reading. Options for post gig drink if there is demand.

Whether you are long time members of the group or only recently sought us out, it’d be great to see you for what should be a fun evening. Any questions please do get in touch.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.
For the few which still have limited numbers, this is handled via Meetup. Follow the link to a walk’s Meetup page (or press 🎟 Register / 🎟 Tickets / 🎟), and mark yourself as attending.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
