Meet outside platform 2 at Pangbourne Station for an 11.30am start. The 11.15 train from Reading should arrive at 11.23. The walk leader won’t be on this train, but should be aware if it is delayed.

Going out of Pangbourne via the Whitchurch Toll Bridge, we will cross into South Oxfordshire. Then heading through Whitchurch-on-Thames, we will join up with the Thames Path. This path will eventually wind its way down to the River Thames, affording some nice views of the river and the Chilterns. From there we will climb a couple of hills (short but steep!) and cut through towards Great Chalk Wood, where we will stop for lunch.

After exiting the wood, we will swing around Cray’s Pond and then head towards the village of Whitchurch Hill. Time permitting, there may be the opportunity for a short pub stop here. Finally, we head out via some fields back into Whitchurch-on-Thames and Pangbourne. The trains back to Reading from Pangbourne are hourly on Sundays, usually at 19 minutes past the hour. If our return timing is off, then there should be a chance to get refreshments at a nearby pub.

Please bring a packed lunch and water.
