Walk

moderate public transport Walk

Meet at Pangbourne Station car park. The walk is timed to meet the 10:56 train from Reading which will arrive at Pangbourne at 11:04. Parking is also available in Pangbourne, where charges may apply.

The walk will take us along the Thames Path towards Goring. We will walk above the Thames through the BBOWT nature reserve of Lower Hartslock Wood on the way, before it flattens out towards Goring.

We will then stop for lunch just before Goring, before heading to a pub in Goring. If you only want to walk 5 miles, then you can catch the train back to Reading or Pangbourne from here.

The walk will then take us around Upper Gatehampton Farm where we should have some lovely views.

There will also be an optional second pub stop in Whitchurch.

This walk is rather steep and hilly in places as it’s on the edge of the Chilterns.

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
