Walk details
We’ll head out from our start point through the trees of Clayfield Copse on the edge of Caversham Park Village estate, and then onto a short stretch of road walking. We’ll soon join a section of the Chiltern Way which takes us across gently rolling fields, before arriving at the front gates of Crowsley Park.
The Park is a 160-acre country estate where Tom Baker’s Doctor Who met his dramatic end in 1981. It’s also intermittently home to quite a few horses, as well as some very large satellite dishes.
After some lunch at Crowsley we’ll start our return journey, through quiet fields and along narrow lanes, until we reach the village of Dunsden Green. Here, we’ll drop into the Loddon Brewery for a refreshing drink (hot or cold) if it’s open.
The final stretch of the walk takes us back to Caversham in a short time, via Blackhouse Wood, which lies adjacent to Clayfield Copse.
NOTE: If you’ve joined me on one of the previous times I’ve led this walk, it has been replanned to avoid the very worst of the mud we experienced previously. However, this does NOT mean we won’t encounter mud or flooding if the weather has been bad!
