Bring coffee and creativity together for this social where we will visit The Ugly Duckling, Newbury’s pottery painting studio. This is a great opportunity to unwind, relax and unleash your inner artist!

First we will choose what we want to paint from a varied range of options (plates, bowls, cups, pet bowls, figurines etc etc) then paint away! While we’re painting there is a varied menu of hot drinks, soft drinks, milkshakes and even alcoholic beverages to choose from that we can sip as we paint.

When we’re finished we leave our creations with the studio for around 7 days and they will fire them for us. We can then collect our creations from the shop or alternatively they will post them to you for £5 (for those who don’t live nearby).

This social directly follows the Kintbury to Newbury walk led by Alex so you may choose to sign up for both.

We have booked a table for 15 people, and the sign up is first come first served! Please RSVP by 7th April to secure your space.

Getting There
If coming to the Kintbury to Newbury walk beforehand…
Follow instructions from Alex and Caroline on the day to get to the studio after the walk.

If coming by train from Reading
Take the 13:33 train from Reading which arrives in Newbury at 13:54. The studio is a 6 minute walk from the station.

If coming by car
There are various public car parks in Newbury with associated parking charges. The closest is a multi-story car park at the Kennet Centre (Bartholomew Street, RG14 5EN) where the parking is £3.90 for 3 hours (our painting session is 2 hours long).

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.
For the few which still have limited numbers, this is handled via Meetup. Follow the link to a walk’s Meetup page (or press 🎟 Register / 🎟 Tickets / 🎟), and mark yourself as attending.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
