fun golf Guildford Pub social

Due to the overwhelming success of the festive fancy dress pub crawl back in December, it seems us BWs (some of us at least!) enjoy dressing up!

SO with that in mind, it’s time to don your best golfing attire, get yourself to Guildford and join us on the first ever Berkshire Walkers Pub Golf social!

We will be aiming to ‘tee off’ at 14:15 – which means getting the 13:32 departure from Reading (arriving Guildford 14:07), if this train is delayed so will the start of the social. The organiser will be on this train.

Exact itinerary of public houses to be announced nearer the time – but in true pub golf tradition, there will be 9 (drinking) holes – not sure any of us could handle 18!! For those up to the challenge, you can join the organiser in abiding by the official rules (these will be explained at the start!) – we’ll have score cards & of course, a prize for the winner…there may even be a prize for the best dressed golfer too!

Fear not, if you don’t fancy playing, you can just come along for the pub crawl…but please do dress up!

If you cannot join us for the start, please call the organiser for an up to date location! We will be planning to have dinner at around 18:30/19:00 – venue TBC. Return trains to Reading run twice an hour. Last train 00:01!

UPDATED 16/4/19: Please note, we will not be meeting for lunch before the social. The organiser will be at Reading station for 13:20 in order to catch the 13:32 train to Guildford.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.
For the few which still have limited numbers, this is handled via Meetup. Follow the link to a walk’s Meetup page (or press 🎟 Register / 🎟 Tickets / 🎟), and mark yourself as attending.
Social and other events may have their own booking system – please see the event description.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
