This hilly linear walk through a mixture of woods, parks and farmland rejoins the Chiltern Way where last year’s Goring-to-Reading walk left it, following the next stretch through the countryside north of Reading all the way to Nettlebed. There will hopefully be further sections to come later in the year.

We will meet at the north exit of Reading station (i.e. the Thames/Caversham side) at 10am, leaving the town via Christchurch Meadows, Balmore Park and Hemdean/Bug’s Bottom, rejoining the Chiltern Way at Dyson’s Wood. This will take us through Crowsley Park (amongst other things, home to a BBC satellite receiving station) and the grounds of Greys Court before finally turning towards Nettlebed, which we’ll enter through Wellgrove Wood and Crocker End. Buses run back to Reading once an hour.

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink. Possible pub stop in Rotherfield Greys en route, and the option of a pub or café at the end before catching the bus.

Parts of the route are likely to be muddy at this time of year, and the route is relatively hilly, so good footwear is advisable.

NOTE: This is a linear walk
