Meet outside the north exit of Reading station (the other side of the bridge and underpass from the main concourse) in time for a 10.30am start.
This flat walk on mostly well-maintained footpaths would be ideal for anyone wanting to try the group out for the first time. We will begin by walking a short stretch of the Thames towpath to the Horseshoe Bridge just east of the town centre, before following the River Kennet and the Kennet & Avon Canal back through town and out across the countryside to Theale.
Sensible shoes are recommended, and there could be a bit of mud in places, but walking boots are not essential. As usual, please bring a packed lunch and a drink. The walk will finish at Theale station, from where trains run back to Reading twice an hour, and some of us will probably visit one of the nearby pubs for a drink while we wait.
NOTE: This is a linear walk
