PLEASE NOTE: This walk is limited to 11 walkers + the walk leader.

Due to Government and Ramblers restrictions, places are limited on all of our walks. Please do not turn up for a walk without prior booking via the Google form, as we will have to turn you away.

Due to COVID-19, we all need to take extra steps to stay safe. Please follow all safety advice given by the walk leader, including the latest guidelines on physical distancing while out walking.

Please follow the latest government guidelines on the use of public transport and car sharing. It is recommended that you bring hand sanitizer or gloves in case you need to touch gates/stiles/etc. It is also recommended that you bring a face covering, in case of emergencies. If you or someone else from your household has COVID-19 symptoms, please do not attend.

Keeping the recent tradition of Halloween walks alive (or at least undead…) this will be a mostly wooded walk after dark, heading out of Crowthorne through Simon’s Wood and past Heath Pool, before descending over Finchampstead Ridges through denser woodland. We’ll then pass directly over Ambarrow Hill and return to Crowthorne along the side of the railway.

Meet at 17:40 in the car park on the west side of Crowthorne station, shortly after the arrival of the 17:20 service from Reading (17:30 from Wokingham). The walk leader will be on this train, and if it’s running late then the start will be delayed accordingly. If arriving by train from Reading, note that the start point is on the opposite side of the station. Return trains in either direction run hourly. Charges apply (via APCOA) to park here; otherwise please park legally and considerately nearby.

Please note that although the walk is short, we’ll be walking after dark through woodland over uneven and sometimes steep or slippery ground. Sturdy walking boots and warm clothing are strongly advised.

Please bring a headtorch or other light if you have one, preferably with a red light, mode or filter to avoid losing our night vision – though we’ll try not to use them except where necessary.

There will be no major stops on the walk, but please bring water and you might wish to bring a snack or hot drink to have along the way (or while waiting for a train at the end).

Book a place on this walk by completing the Google Form. We will only use the contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk, or to share if requested with NHS Test and Trace. If you wish to bring a friend, then you must BOTH complete the booking form.

If after booking, you need to cancel your place on the walk, please email walking@berkshirewalkers.co.uk so that we can make your place available to someone else.

Please only contact the leader with queries about the walk or if you are delayed on the day.
