Festival of Winter Walks moderate North Downs Way public transport Walk

Take the 9:48 departure from Reading (9:56 Wokingham), which arrives at Godalming at 10:50. This journey involves a change of train at Guildford (arr 10:30 dep 10:42). If you decide to drive to the walk, I would recommend parking at Guildford Station (charges apply) and catching the train to Godalming, so your car is waiting for you at the end of the walk.

We will begin by following the Fox Way through countryside, passing through the villages of Shackleford and Puttenham. We then join the North Downs Way. Depending on numbers, we will stop at the Watts Gallery Tea Room for cake. We’ll then continue along the North Downs Way, until it meets the Wey Navigation. We then follow the Wey into Guildford.

Possible pub stop at the end of walk.

Trains back to Reading every half hour.

Note: This is a linear walk. Buy return to Godalming.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
