Walk details

We depart the village of Lane End, heading in a north westerly direction towards Bolter End. Here we leave the village behind heading across open farmland viewing a variety of crops and farm animals, eventually reaching Fingest and the unique St Bartholomew’s Norman church.

Soon after leaving the village we tackle our first climb of the day through Mill Hanging Wood ending up at Cobstone Mill. This windmill was built in 1816 on Turville Hill and originally ground cereal grains, but is most famous for featuring in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. We will stop for lunch on the hill and admire the sweeping views and red kites (taking care to ensure they don’t steal our sandwiches!)

After lunch, it’s down the hill and into the village of Turville itself – again famous for a number of TV and film appearances including Killing Eve, Midsomer Murders, Lewis, Foyles War, Little Britain, Jonathan Creek and the Vicar of Dibley with the village’s St Mary the Virgin Church doubling as Dibley’s St Barnabus. There will hopefully be the opportunity for a well deserved pub stop in the Bull & Butcher at this point.

Refreshed, we continue our journey, encountering several more climbs, skirting round Great Wood and through Mousells Wood with the lighthouse visible in the distance. We will likely encounter wildlife including several deer if lucky. The final leg is back through farmland, returning to the car park at Lane End.
