Get your fake tan and hiking heels ready, we’re going to Essex!

Please complete the sign-up form here if you wish to attend, and note that as with all our trips away you must be a member of the Ramblers to do so. There are a total of 16 spaces available on this trip.

Rough Itinerary

Friday evening: drinks, details tbc but probably at the Marlborough Inn opposite Rochford station.

Saturday daytime: joint walk with the local young Ramblers group, Trek Essex. This route will take us from Benfleet or Leigh-on-Sea station (depending on whether people wish to walk the pier) into Southend along the marshes and coastal path. Through this route, we will journey through the historic seafront town of Leigh-on-Sea, home to a range of fisheries and local produce. Taking in the coastal views, we will make our way towards Southend seafront, home to the world’s longest pier and a potential pub or cafe stop. Please note this route will involve two trains if travelling from Rochford or Southend Airport: Greater Anglia from Rochford to Southend Victoria, then c2c from Southend Central to Benfleet.

Saturday evening: meal and drinks, details tbc.

Sunday daytime: a more relaxed route around Rochford’s Roach Valley or Cherry Orchard (tbc), both offering country parks and scenic views of the local area.

Accommodation

It is up to each person attending to book their own accommodation for the trip (Friday and Saturday nights) – here are a couple of suggestions in the Rochford area:

You can also stay more centrally in Southend in a range of Premier Inn and Travelodge accommodation; however, please ensure safety when travelling to and from the hotel.

Other information

Notice: Southend City Centre can experience a few problems with criminal activity, therefore the trip organiser does advise that it is best to stay together when travelling, ensure personal belongings are kept safe/hidden and to avoid walking through the high street at night. If we arrive back later on the Saturday walk, the trip leader may adjust travel to the local buses to ensure group safety. Stay sensible.

Sign up will remain open until April 13th or when all spaces are filled. This is to allow adequate time for more information to be shared via the WhatsApp group that will be set up for those attending.

Please note some walks may be subject to change depending upon public transport accessibility. Updates will be provided via the WhatsApp group nearer the time.
