Join us on this short 5.5 mile walk around Theale and Englefield Estate via Wilders Folly.

Walk details

This walk is starting early so people still have time to get home and get all glam, glitzy and festive ready for the BW Christmas party in the evening!

We will meet at Theale Station for an early start – 9.50am. If you are coming from Reading, take the 9.35am train which will arrive at Theale station for 9.41am. If the trains are late, the start of the walk will be too. Limited parking is available at the station.

Leaving the Station we will head through Theale and out towards the golf course, turning left and starting to make our way towards Englefield Estate. As we walk through Englefield Estate we hopefully should get a glimpse of the Deer they have in the estate and see the beautiful Englefield House.

The house has been featured in many films and programs including X-Men, The Kings Speech, and Great Expectations. More recently parts of the house have been used as the Sandringham Estate in Netflix’s The Crown. It was also used as the house of Baroness Von Hellman in the 2021 movie Cruella.

Once out of the Estate we head towards to cross over the noisy M4. Our walk will then take us up towards Wilders Folly where we can stop and take in the beautiful views (weather permitting – I can’t guarantee it won’t be raining)!

The last part of our walk will take us back into Theale, passing Ikea on our left and heading back over the M4 and back to the station.

Please bring some water with you – there will be no lunch stop as we will be finishing before lunch. Wear suitable foot wear too! Some of the paths will be muddy now bearing in mind the amount of rain we have had in the last few weeks!

These paths are popular with locals and could be busy at times so please be considerate to other path users and step to the side to let people past – but also don’t forget to say “HI” or “Thank You”.

This is an easy graded walk as it’s mainly flat.
