Bus Replacement easy Litter Pick public transport Walk

Meet at Theale station for an 11.30am start. NOTE: It is a BUS REPLACEMENT SERVICE from Reading to Theale and Newbury to Theale.

The bus departure time is 10.49am from Reading station and due to arrive in Theale station at 11.18am. If you are coming from Newbury, the bus departure time is 10.19am from Newbury station and arrives in Theale station at 11.03am. These times are correct as of the time this walk was published.

If the bus is late, the start of the walk will be too. Parking is available at the station (charges will apply).

This walk is slightly different to our usual walks as this will be a walk with a litter pick included. This is part of a county-wide of Berkshire Ramblers group’s initiative. There will be 4 other Berkshire based Ramblers groups which are participating in a littler pick today across different parts of the county.

Reading Borough Council will be kindly lending us some littler picking equipment for this walk. We will be collecting discarded litter from along the footpaths of the walk.

As we meander our way through the Berkshire countryside from Theale station through North Street and Sulham and back we will collect people’s discarded rubbish to help clean up our beautiful countryside.

We will get chance to stop at Wilder’s Folly on Nunhide Hill near Sulham to take in the views near the end of the walk.

I will be bringing my dog (Oscar) along on this walk (as long as it’s not raining, he doesn’t like going for a walk when it raining). He is a very friendly Westie who will be pleased to meet all who come along. In case anyone has a fear of dogs, he is a perfect dog to help overcome this.

This is an easy walk which is relatively flat. The footpaths may be a bit muddy so please wear suitable footwear. Please bring a packed lunch and something to drink.

Note: TRAINS BETWEEN THEALE AND READING WILL BE REPLACED WITH A RAIL REPLACEMENT BUS.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
