The Berkshire Walkers are going to the (open air) theatre – and this time it’s a play about walking!
The only theatre company in the world to tour by narrowboat, Mikron Theatre perform at pubs, restaurants, village halls and every other type of venue across Britain every summer. Brought to life by a cast of just four actor-musicians, their lively and original plays celebrate aspects of British history and culture, and are funny while also thought-provoking.
Tonight at 7pm they will be performing “Common Ground”, a play that begins with the Pendale and District Ramblers finding that the path for their fiftieth anniversary walk has been blocked by the landowner. From this starting point, the play explores the history of the Ramblers, and of land access and the right to roam in Britain, from the Norman Conquest to the present day.
It is necessary to bring a seat with you. The social organiser has two spare camping-style chairs available to borrow. These will be available to reserve ahead of the social on a first-come, first-served basis. However, please do not bring your own food and drink.
It is completely free to enter and no tickets or registration is required: a “pay what you feel” collection will be taken at the end, with a suggested donation of £15. The performance should end around 9pm.
The social organiser has reserved a table in the Rowbarge at 5.30pm for a meal before the performance. If you would like to come for a meal beforehand, please email tomh@berkshirewalkers.co.uk to reserve a space.

The social organiser intends to travel on the 17.10 train from Reading, arriving at 17.25. If you are unable to attend the meal, but wish to attend the play only, then the 18.06 train from Reading will arrive in good time for the start.
If travelling by train from the Newbury direction, please use the 17.06 train (for the meal) or the 18.06 (for the play).
