A lovely circular walk round part of Virginia Water lake and an exploration of Valley Gardens, both part of Windsor Great Park.

As it’s only a short walk, there isn’t a lunch stop as such, so feel free to grab some brunch beforehand. We should finish about 2pm.

Meet in the car park of the Virginia Water Wheatsheaf Hotel on the A30 at postcode GU25 4QF. Parking charges apply, though limited roadside parking may be available on the left-hand side of the A30 past the Wheatsheaf Hotel.

This walk is also accessible by train (total walking distance including the walk itself: 8 miles). If travelling from Reading, catch the 1054 service to Virginia Water, which is scheduled to arrive at 1131 (buy a return to Virginia Water). The walk leader will be on this train.

UPDATE: For anyone planning on driving from the west of Reading, please note that the M4 will be closed in both directions between junctions 12 (Theale) and 13 (Chieveley) all weekend.

Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
