Meet outside the main exit (North side) of Maidenhead railway station in time for a 10:20am start.  If travelling by train from Reading, take the 10:03 departure which is scheduled to arrive at Maidenhead at 10:17.  The walk leader will be on this train, so if the train is delayed, the start of the walk will be too.

This is a flat walk along a picturesque part of the River Thames, ending in the historic town of Windsor. Along the way we’ll see riverside mansions, open countryside, and hear the echos underneath Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s Sounding Arch. We’ll have a lunch stop en route and a pub stop in Eton.

The walk will then head up to Windsor Castle and along The Long Walk to the Copper Horse Statue in Windsor Great Park. Weather permitting we’ll be able to spot some famous London landmarks in the distance. Alternatively if you want a shorter walk, then there’s the option to leave the group at the castle and explore the town.

Please bring a packed lunch and water.

This is a linear walk, so you should buy a return ticket to Windsor & Eton Central. For those that don’t have a Railcard, we will try to travel in groups of 3-9 to take advantage of the GroupSave discount – if you wish to do this please meet at 9:35am prompt outside the Three Guineas pub and carry some change. The discounted ticket will cost around £6.80.

Return trains from Windsor & Eton Central station leave every 20 minutes. Change at Slough to get back to Reading.

This walk is part of National Young Ramblers 2018. However, we would be delighted to welcome all people on this walk, whether you are attending our event or not.
