A rather historical ramble, with lots of sites to see and fabulous views.

Meet at Egham station on the ticket office side for an 10:25am start. If you are coming from Reading, take the 9.42am train (9:56am Wokingham) which will arrive at Egham station at 10:23am. If you are coming from London Waterloo, take the 9.28am train and change at Feltham (arr 9:59 dep 10:06), which will arrive at Egham at 10:19am.

If the train is late, the start of the walk will be too. Parking is available at the station, Saturday cost is £2.

We’ll start by walking uphill to the eponymous Green of Englefield Green. From here, we’ll walk past Savill Gardens to our first site – The Obelisk at Windsor Great Park and Obelisk Pond. We’ll then walk through the park towards the Copper Horse Statue, passing a view of the Savill Gardens on the way.

Crossing the deer park, we’ll pause at the Copper Horse Statue to take in the fantastic views of Windsor Castle and towards London. Possible pub stop at The Fox and Hounds if we’re there at the right time.

From here, we’ll walk towards Runnymede, taking in the JFK memorial, Magna Carta Monument and the Thames. We’ll then walk up Cooper’s Hill, through a SSSI to the Commonwealth Air Forces Memorial, which again has amazing views from the top.

We’ll then walk down Cooper’s Hill and back to Egham Station.

The footpaths may be a bit muddy so please wear suitable footwear. Please bring a packed lunch and something to drink.

For those that don’t have a Railcard, we will try to travel in groups to take advantage of the GroupSave discount – if you wish to do this, please meet at 9:15am prompt outside the Three Guineas pub and carry some change. The discounted ticket will cost around £10.75 (full price £16.10)

This walk is part of National Young Ramblers 2018. However, we would be delighted to welcome all people on this walk, whether you are attending our event or not.
