Bunkfest festival Music social Walk Wallingford

Bunkfest is a free community music, dance and beer festival in the historic riverside town of Wallingford.

It takes its name from the “Wallingford Bunk”, the nickname for the steam railway connecting the town with the main line at Cholsey. The main stage at the Kinecroft hosts folk, folk-rock and world music acts, with a beer tent and fringe venues around Wallingford, including singing trains on the Cholsey and Wallingford Steam Railway.

Meet at the beer tent at the Kinecroft at around 4pm – exact time depending on the progress of the day’s walk. The organiser intends to enjoy the main stage and sample some of the beers, but there is plenty to choose from – see the Bunkfest website for more information.

Between them, the X39 and X40 routes connect Reading and Wallingford every half hour on a Saturday (last return bus 10.02pm). The Cholsey and Wallingford Steam Railway runs an hourly service connecting with main line trains (last return train 11pm). Pay and display parking is available in Wallingford town centre, however this is likely to be busy due to the festival. Booking onto a walk

Most walks do not require advance booking, and you can just turn up on the day. We encourage those comfortable with Meetup to indicate there that you plan to come though, so that others can see there will be plenty of people there – this really helps to encourage new members to come along.

Pace Guide

Gentle: led at a gentle pace with regular short breaks for water or rest. Should be suitable for anyone capable of the distance. (Expect 2–2.5 mph.)
Medium: led at an intermediate pace with fewer breaks but still suitable for most walkers. (Expect 2.5–3 mph.)
Fast: led at a quick pace with minimal breaks. May be a challenge for those with less fitness. (Expect 3 mph+.)

Speeds quoted are only a rough guide, including time spent on short water/rest stops and negotiating stiles/gates/roads etc. but not that spent on longer lunch or pub stops.
